Serve your guests a sweet little mini pie in a jar, adding a free printable favor tag for an extra-special touch! Check out how to make this adorable dessert from the video below.

Total Time: 40 min

Materials and Ingredients

  • 4 4-oz. jelly jars
  • Leaf pie crust (or cookie) cutters
  • 2 ready-made store-bought pie crusts (2 pie crusts will make 4 mini pies)
  • 4 apples
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup sugar (brown or white)
  • 1 tbsp. flour
  • 1 tbsp. butter

  • 1

    Peel apples.

  • 2

    Dice apples.

  • 3

Loosen the edge of the pie crust all the way around the tin before turning the pie upside down on a cutting board (or use thawed frozen pie dough, which is already flat). Flatten pie crust. Cut in quarters.

  • 4

Stuff a quarter of the crust into a jar. Trim excess dough from the edges and use the extra dough pieces to patch up any bare areas inside the jar, pressing it down with your fingers, so the entire interior is covered.

  • 5

Use your jar lid as a cookie cutter to cut your mini pie top and set aside.

  • 6

Mix diced apples, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, sugar, flour and butter to make your pie filling. (Note: This can be prepped a day in advance.)

  • 7

Spoon filling into jar, and add pie top. Turn the jar upside down and twist it a few times on your cutting board to trim the edges. Then use the tines of a fork to crimp the top crust to the side to create a good seal. *Optional: Use a pie crust or cookie cutter to cut out a small shape (like our leaf) from the extra crust and add it to the top of your pie as an edible embellishment.

  • 8

Use a knife to create vents for baking. *Optional: For an extra golden, shiny crust, brush the top with a beaten egg and sprinkle sugar over it before baking.

  • 9

Bake pie jars on a baking sheet at 400 degrees until crust is golden brown (about 20-25 minutes). Let cool for at least 20 minutes, then add a free printable favor tag to the jar.
