KA-POW! Throw a super comic book birthday party for your superhero and friends. We’ve created a guide with everything you need to know, from party food to party favors.

Comic Book Party Decorations

Cover your buffet table with a blue tablecloth to add color and catch crumbs (it’ll make post-party cleanup a snap). Fill trays with “Supermanwiches” and superpower veggies like carrots and cherry tomatoes to keep kids fueled all day. Add dimension to your table and set up an easy way to serve food and drinks with this skyscraper cone stand. Finally, place your comic book cake center stage on a cake stand (we like this black glass pedestal).

Download and print our free comic book party printables to decorate your party space. Start simple by hanging our “Happy Birthday” banner behind your main food table using 3M Command hooks or white painter’s tape (both available at hardware or home improvement stores). Or go all out and do it up with our DIY string art backdrop.

Our suite of free printables also includes individual paper placemats and printable superhero masks — just punch tiny holes on either end of each mask and attach an elastic cord. Give the guest of honor a customizable superhero cape straight out of a superhero comic.

Comic Book Party Food

Purchase plastic food baskets to hold snacks and sandwiches, then serve cake on these comic book dessert plates. To tie the theme together, we purchased yellow disposable utensils and red napkins, then wrapped them in our free printable utensil wrap.

We added primary-colored cups to our skyscraper cone stand to create a tower of chips. Deli sandwiches wrapped in yellow tissue paper and tied with baker’s twine are served up on a tray, while polka-dot condiment cups are perfect for offering baby veggies. Even drinks get a makeover: Our free printable comic book labels upgrade plain plastic water bottles, which can also be used on mini bottles of juice or soda.

For dessert, we custom-ordered a cake and displayed it on a decorative cake stand, adding our free printable cake toppers. Don’t forget candles for the birthday boy or girl to blow out!

Comic Book Party Activities

Stick to the superhero theme with a comic book-style “WHAM!” piñata. Fill it with your favorite treats and favors, like comic book temporary tattoos and lollipops, then let the kids test their strength at the bat.

Don’t forget to take plenty of party pics. Kids will love posing for this fun photo booth — just check out our DIY photo booth tutorial to learn how to make your own. Bonus: Download our free printable photo booth props to help kids get into the superhero spirit. Just attach your printable props to wooden dowels from a craft store using hot glue or tape. Comic Book Party Favors

Decorate treat bags with our free comic book printables and let guests take home the printable masks plus treats from the piñata.

Comic Book Party Printables

Materials:

  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • X-ACTO knife (helpful, though not necessary)
  • Small wooden dowels for photo props
  • Mini wooden dowels or toothpicks for signs and cake toppers
  • Tape for hanging banners and signs
  • Twine or string for banners and signs

Tips:

  1. When making a banner, measure and cut the string to fit the length of the wall where you plan to hang the banner, then fold the string in half to find its center. Attach the middle letter to the middle of the string and work outward on either side to ensure your message is centered.
  2. Don’t have time to digitally personalize our editable printables? No problem, write the names or titles in by hand!
  3. Having trouble cutting around the small grooves? Use an X-ACTO knife for those areas.
  4. A hole punch is essential for cutting out holes to insert string or twine.
